night of the giants

  11/30/2024

20:30 - 22:00

After the huge success in 2023, the Night of the Giants will return in 2024.

On the night of November 30th we will observe the 4 giant planets of the solar system in the Astronomical Observations session at 8:30 pm, don't miss the opportunity to observe all the giant planets at once!

On this day, the planets are already high enough to allow a very close-up view of their surfaces. Using high-sensitivity cameras, we will explore the surface of each of the giants. Jupiter's great storm is also expected to be visible tonight!

We will take advantage of the good positioning of the planets in the sky to observe them with cameras. We will start the session by observing Saturn, then moving on to Uranus and Neptune and ending with Jupiter.

Jupiter:

Considered the "Big Brother" of the solar system. The big, giant, Jupiter. With a mass of 317 Earths or 2.5 times the mass of all the planets in the solar system. Jupiter is a colossus through the telescope and given its proximity to Earth the details of its atmosphere are easily identified through the telescope, including the system of Galilean moons (Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto).

Saturn :

Known for its fascinating ring structure, Saturn is located 1,300 million kilometers from Earth with a mass 95 Earths. The ring system is composed mainly of ice with a total diameter of 282 thousand kilometers and an approximate thickness of 1 km.

Uranus :

The third gaseous planet in the solar system. Uranus, with 14 times the mass of Earth, is a mere 2,600 million kilometers away when it is closest to Earth. Despite being the seventh planet from the Sun and having a larger volume than Neptune, Uranus's mass is less than that of Neptune.

Neptune :

The last planet in the solar system. It has a mass equivalent to 17 Earths and when it is closest it is 3,000 million kilometers away.
